This is my first MMORPG. Why? Well I was never interested enough in any of the others to even try. Even the new ones (WoW and Matrix Online) cant get my interest. However CoH has me. And as Star put it earlier. Im the borderline "need intervention" gamer. I am hooked.

i have some other toons, but the only noteable one is LtQuartermaine. hes a level 34 AR/dev blaster. all the rest are under 10. ill tell all about them when the time comes.

wish all these online types had a demo..let ya try it for a few days..and if ya like it..pay the cost of the game..to keep playing

Hmmm...

Well it has two basic things in common with Freedom Force: same genre, and super powers. Beyond that completely different.

Freedom Force is a turn based strategy game more or less. You can pause play, set-and-forget some things with some of the characters, and save and restore.

CoH is completely different. Its very fast paced. All combat is real time. There is no set-and-forget. There is no pausing. There is no save and restore. You die you get penalized for it, you can't just return to a restore point.

When you stop playing, the game doesn't. Hence the concept of a persistent world. In FF you don't have that, when the game is off, its off.

The basics...

Create your character. This includes, picking an origin, and archetype, your powersets, some initial powers in those sets, design your costume (you have a huge amount of control for costume design), pick your name (and hope its not yet taken), your battle-cry, and even space to type in an origin that other people in game can see.

This is an errand based game. You have contacts, they give you some missions to choose from, you pick one, and you do it. When you're done you return to them and get another mission. Eventaully then will introduce you to other contacts. Etc.

There are a few basic mission types: Go to this spot and touch this thing or NPC, Kill X of monster Y possibly in a particular spot, Go to this door go inside and do this task.

Sometimes these missions are strung together into a small group of 3-5 missions called a mini-arc. Then they can be strung together in longer 10-15 mission groups called story-arcs. Then they can be strung into 15-30 missions and called a Task Force. Task Forces require multiple players. Some mini-arcs are also Trials which are mini-Task Forces with a huge objective to achieve.

You earn experience as you do things. This advances your character eventually to the next level. At the next level, and depending on the level you will either be asked to enhance your current powers OR to actually pick new powers from your current powersets. You will also have the opporunity to open other smaller powerset called power pools, for example Flight, or Superspeed.

You also earn influence as you do things. You pronounce influence as "mah-nee". Influence can be used to change the basic abilities of each of your powers, or to change your costume, or to get a whole other costume, etc. Essentially things that cost money, you spend influence.

You can also earn badges. These are items that anyone getting info on your character can see and admire.

Also remember you don't just pay the up front price for this game. There is a monthly subscription cost.

Hi everyone.

I just found this game last night while checking out games at walmart.I've seen a few things before on this game,but never really paid to much to it.After picking up the box,was thinking it seemed like a good game to play..but I didnt buy it..wanted to come online
see what info i could fine on it.

I've played a few other online types games,they always seemed to get pulled off line after a year or two.

can anyone give a good idea of what the game is like?what you do most of the time,how it works basics type stuff

I figured it would be something easy like that.

My other SG runs a session on Wednesday nights. So I've been tooling around Talos and IP with them.

I know that I won't be on tomorrow night. I've got fencing practice from 7:30-10:30.

I really like that the group is willing and able to lend a hend when able.

I do have yet one more quick question. Step 1 of the membership process mentions a form and sponsorship. I don't see a particular form and I'm not sure how to go about a sponsorship.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Also we're the type of group where someone can say I need help finishing this mission and someone will volunteer. Example last night I needed help getting 3 bombs disarmed at the same time.

Along with my 33 healer, I have a 29 scrapper along with a 22 blaster and others.

Thanks for answering my questions. I'm not currently an unemployed beatnik either, I just work out of my home.

I live on the East coast and while I don't consider myself an intervention level gamer, I seem to play an awful lot. *laugh* I just spread it around to a few other characters.

I've got one (right now) dedicated night to CoH. One of my alts SG plays on Wednesday nights. I don't actually play (surprised to say) on Thursday nights though. But the rest of the week, I'm usually on with one character or another for a few hours at a time.

I like that the SG has a fairly active group working together.

Honestly, that's been my problem. Artos is a lvl 24 controller. Most of the time, I need a team to be able to finish out missions. Either that or a whole day to complete them...crush, propel, lift one at a time rinse and repeat. I was in a SG but it's down to really only 3 active members including myself and my husband. So it was time to move on.

I understand and agree with the review process. Everyone needs to be sure that this is something beneficial to all parties involved. You wouldn't want to take on a controller who runs screaming into a room full of Sky Skiffs and Jump Bots 2+ levels above him only to hear him say "Help!!!". That wouldn't be helpful at all.

There are group members on most nights. We range from Western to Eastern US, though we do have one member who lives in Norway (?). There are about 25 members ranging from "plays to much and needs intervention" to light casual.

We have character ranging from the teens to 1 level 50 (soon to be more it looks like). We do have a fairly active group that has been going through the 20-30s together and is set to do the 2nd Striga TF next Tuesday -- likely followed soon by Bastion.

Some of us team regularly with members of the Archons of Justice (some of them post here, some of us post on their forums).

We always will accept interested parties after a review process -- usually a few missions teaming with at least two members who are ranked Magistrate or Avatar. Just to make sure you're a fit for us.

I am not currently in the AoJ supergroup. So other than chatting with you here, I've never had the pleasure of patrolling the streets of Paragon City with any of you.

What's keeping me? Not a whole heck of a lot. I suppose I would need to start on the steps as spelled out in the application process.

I am about a week into the game and I gotta say that im hooked! I was introduced to the game by my brother who plays Voodoo Priest and is already in AOJ. He will be my sponser and will vouch for me. I came from AC1 and I played as a Guardian of Dereth on LC and was later introduced to the Guardians in AC2. My play style is pretty casual but at times can get hardcore. I believe in the honor system and Im totally against griefers. I have heard a lot of great things about this group and would like to become one of its newest members. Hope to be joining you all on the battlefield soon

I can proudly say that I have managed to achieve alost everyone of my life long goals and am now pretty much a couch patato.

Some of my goals were to dive the Great barrier Reef in Austrailia. learn to fly(alost I did solo 3 times before I quit) Ride my motorcycle cross country. CA->KY->FL->CA. and see a big chunk of the western part o the world. HI, japan, s. Korea, Phillipeans, Okinawa, Japan, Hong kong and Austrasilia.(GO NAVY!)

I have followed CoH almost from day 1 and was let into the second wave of beta in January'04. Of all the games, I have ever played, nothing comes close to topping this one for me.

I have a cat and a temporary dog. I found this dog starving on the road where some jerk dumped her. Once I get her healthy and spayed, I'll try to find her a home.

While not part of AoJ, a lot of you know FarmAide. He is currently a lvl 23 Mind/Emapth controller.

Dog became permanent and I also picked up another kitten. teh older cat hates her an the dog thinks she's a chew yoy.

FarmAide is 36 now..

I'm Molly, Married to Juke (see above post) I've played most of the same games as him, and was in on the group with a few Funks, Kiki, and some random drunk guy who Green quickly got rid of as he was leeching exp lol.. It was alot of fun.. hope to see you guys again sometime here

I tried adding Circeus earlier and got a message about no such character... maybe I spelled it wrong or something. I'll try to remember to add other chars... my 5600XT isn't dealing well with the game right now. Plays fine, but desktop icons are getting corrupted after play, and tabbing out is way too hard on it.

Still learning the game, and I'm not to social while doing that... everyone forgive me if I miss a tell, and just send an in-game e-mail... I check that regularly.

A number of you know me from AC, where I've played since release (4+ years). I currently have Proximon, a mutant unarmed Scrapper. Around level 6 and struggling on my own... time to find some teams.

I also have Storm Omen, A Techno Lightning Blaster, around level 4.

I'm a newb to CoH, but was quite tired of EQ and am enjoying the change. I'm 36, married and a Unix Systems Admin at the State of Arkansas. I work with a couple of your members Ms Mystic/Shrike and Fuzun. And their enthusiasm in the game is quite catchy.

My main Dark Starr is a 11th level Defender and I have a 7th level Scrapper (Fearse) as well. Hope to see some of you in game sometime.

My brother just recently got back from a year long tour of duty with the Army in Iraq. (They got him to re-enlist once he got back by sending him to Hawaii, the lucky #%&$%*! ) Anyway, here's hoping all yours come home safe, sound and soon.

Miss Tigress here, In real life my name is Rebecka. I'm 24 and finishing up school at syracuse university. I'm a military brat. My father was in the Army. So i grew up on several bases around the states. I have three older brothers all of them are in three different branches of the military. Army, Marines, and Airforce. And all three are over in Iraq (SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!) everything is okay so far with them. I'm a total Tom boy hehehe. There weren't alot of kids for us to play with so we had to entertain ourselves. So i lost out alot of times when it came to what we played. I had to play things like Guns, and Capture the flag, Dungen and dragons, Video games and the list of boy games goes on LOL. So thats me in a nut shell. I have two cats work for a networking company selling net works... hehehe I'm such a nerd!

I'm another one of those who know Star/Miss Dale from Asheron's Call. I played a character there (Van Dyksun) as part of a research project while I was in graduate school and then dropped out for awhile because of computer issues. Restarted and reconnected to the GoD group earlier this year and then CoH came out and here I be.

I'm 37, married, and have two cats. We all live in the District of Columbia. My wife is working on her PhD, but I doubt she would ever join in as she's not interested in staying indoors in front of the computer and prefers to go out and ride her horse.
