About upgrading the site...
I'd like to upgrade the site to the latest version of Drupal, but I've been holding off for one simple reason: the bbcode module has not yet been updated, and it doesn't look like it will be any time soon.
I'm not sure what sort of impact people feel this will have on them. Generally speaking bbcode are those hard-bracketed encapsulation tags used in many forum around the interenet (specifically phpbb and the main CoH forums which are UBB).
Now this is not the end of the world (loosing bbcode that is) but I want people to understand that going forward means we won't have it unless the bbcode module gets upgraded to the latest version. That said, HTML inside posts is supported, and its just something that I'm wondering if people feel that they can handle?
It will also mean older posts containing bbcode may break.
Generally I'd like to leave this thread opened for the next week to get feedback from users on this.
Obviously another alternative is to move to a different portal system like post-Nuke or maybe mxBB (a phpbb2 wrapper).
So what do people think?

When I code a window I can code it 1 of 3 ways now BBCode, PHP, or HTML.
I had that one set to BBCode (which doesn't allow HTML).
They have a stock search box I'm going to switch to though, so no big.

As a safety measure, direct HTML tags are no longer allowed in regular user posts.
BBCode will be interpreted as needed.
You can still reference image nodes via a BBCode like tag.
And email addresses ( e.g.,
) will be interpreted and anti-SPAM protected as previously.
Web addresses, http://www.net-marks.com/ will work just fine.

Seems to be working well. Latest Image changed when I moved an older image from June 2005 to June 2004 but that's a pretty minor bug.
Okay I integrated the old
Okay I integrated the old "Main Menu" into the navigation menu, please let me know if you have problems with any menu links. Links were tested in firefox on two systems and in IE on a third system.
Also changed the site to what Drupal calls "Clean URLS". This means that instead of seeing the old ?q=XXX type links now the links will look like regular web page links. I think this will make it easier for search engines to index us.
If there are any problems, please let me know ASAP.

Its a bit of a mess right now, as the steps required to upgrade are not made clear enough if you ask me, but I'm working on it. I think I've got how its supposed to work, but then again... not 100% sure.

I just got a response from the guy who wrote the bbcode toolbar, and he says the bbcode module works under 4.6 even though its not listed as working there.
Go figure.
I like Drupal, I just wish sometimes the people associated with it weren't so arrogant when they answered questions. Instead of saying "yes the module works" on their forums they say "tough, bbcode sucks anyway, use html".
Still I'll let this go a few more days just to hear if anyone has any strong opinions one way or the other on sticking with Drupal or not.

There's also a urlfilter which should handle converting url's and email addresses correctly. It doesn't contain the spam protection thing, but I might be able to hack that in.

Okay... there is no bbcode mo
Okay... there is no bbcode module for 4.6, but there is a quote module which handles just the bbcode quote command.
There is also some bbcode format bar, but I'm not sure the value of that if the bbcode module doesn't work (have contacted that module's author to see if the format bar covers bbcode itself).
One thing that's lost with the bbcode filter going away is the anti-spam protection it provided with email addresses (look at the front page, notice you can't pull out miss dale's email address from the page source, even though you can see it?)
