Batman Begins------ No Spoilers!!
I obviously couldn't wait long to see this movie, as I suspect many of us will share my feelings about that.
Many people have commented, right or wrong, that both Spiderman movies were the best comicbook movies ever made. That it was also a fun movie in its own right. And to an extent, I would agree with that. Both of those movies were very good and I had a good time watching them.
That being said, they don't compare to Batman Begins! I really loved this movie, both as a movie fan and as a comicbook fan. The movie flowed very well, from beginning to end, without any of the "forced" scenes that are always in other comicbook movies as they try to honor past stories in the film version.
They did several things right in this movie, starting with the casting (with the notable exception of Flass). Most of the performances were top notch; I would rate Katie Holmes as the weakest, but she wasn't bad she just wasn't as strong as the others. The relationship between Batman and Gordan was well done, I think they did several things in the background to cement this without the awkward scene with weak dialogue that misses the mark. They also did a great job of giving both Batman and Bruce Wayne fleshed out and separate characters that were dynamically different and yet there was also a noticable connection.
Some other points;
-The Scarecrow was awesome. I loved the FX and the way he was used, very nice and almost terrifying.
-The Batmobile-- I wasn't thrilled with it when the movie stills were first released, but it definitely grows on you and by the end of the movie I really liked it.
-Wayne Industries-- It's featured prominently throughout the movie, and not just as a backdrop. It's intregal to the story and it didn't feel forced to me. This helped with creating the Bruce Wayne character and giving him an identifiable personality.
-The Batprops- I liked the way they explained how Batman gets these things and they method used to prevent a trail leading to Bruce/Batman.
I hope everyone sees it this weekend and enjoys it like I did!

I agree.
I enjoyed the movie a great deal. And for me it came close to beating out Spiderman as best adaption. I think Christian Bale nailed the dichotomy of Bruce Wayne/Batman which is something the other movies failed to achieve. Even Michael Keaton, who came closer than the others.
BTW, saw Fantastic Four yesterday. Ill post my thoughts when others have seen it.

My take
I also really liked this movie, although I'd still give Spiderman the nod for best superhero movie.
I do need to see BB again, since I saw it opening night on IMAX while sitting in the third row. Needless to say, I think I only saw about a third of the film (the third that happens in the center of the screen, that is... *grin*)
I liked the attempt to ground the film in realism, and I also think that the Scarecrow was a decent villain to use. I would have liked to see Talia as the love interest instead of the assistant DA, and it was a little odd to see Alfred using a Cockney accent instead of an upper-crust accent, but I think it humanized him.
Very minor nits though - on the whole I was very impressed. Oh, and as many reviews have already pointed out, less cutting during the fight scenes would have been extremely welcome.

Got to see BB this past
Got to see BB this past Saturday, and I have to say this movie was defintely the best of the bunch.
Best thing about it? That it was a Batman movie that was actually about Batman and not his love interest and the villains. That was always my problem with the original three, they just were not about Batman, but rather about his adversaries.
This movie is about Batman.
And its classic, well studied, and well followed Batman. Except for the random love interest, the characters are all the characters are all stock Batman characters. Parts of the stories are from several Batman stories from the 70s. And by the end of the movie all the characters move into their true roles as we know them in the lore.
There are little things I so loved about it like Alfred in the cave, etc.

IMAX
This won't mean anything to anyone who isn't the "southwestern Chicago
area" Club, but...
Seven Bridges (near Lisle) is showing it in IMAX this week.
I can't pass it up.
I'm glad to hear that it is good. They have a great cast, and I think
Christian Bale was a perfect choice for the Bat.
