Sin City

So.. I went off today and saw this movie..I had already read the comics and had quite big expectations for this movie..And I have to say in every detail it didn't dissapoint me.
More or less everything up to the camera angles were done like the comics..
Bringing in Star actors like Bruce Willis and Elijah Woods which I have to add played their parts superb.
Did not hurt the movie..Frankly I have nothing on the minus side yet to say cept a mistake I saw..
Let's just say a sixbarreled gun cannot fire eight shots Eye..
Only thing I would like to point out are that this movie were rated 15+ in Norway..I think a 18+ Would have consisted as a better view since more or less because of the gore and such...The violence are nothing an 15 year old kid (12 with parental supervision I think it were) Need to see..Cept from that Very good movie for those that care for Sin City or for the ol' History with gore..The movie are made entirly with blue background (In other words the world all the actors are playing in are computer animated).."The Yellow Bastard" were painted blue when they filmed him since Yellow merges with blue and makes the colors blend together making it impossible to see the difference..The entire movie are black'n white cept for some few details.
A movie to recommend for those that enjoy some dark humor action drama and a bit of lovestory (well kinda)
Other people at the boards view of the film are very much welcome..I know this movie have been out for some time in the US but hey what can I say?...Norway are a bit slow Eye

Ya know...

It used to be that comic geeks would argue who would win Superman vs Batman. Now with the awesome movies released its "which movie is best adaption?"

hehe Laughing out loud

I can't say I never mentioned it to be the best movie I stated it were one of the most accurate comic book related out there.

Close but no cigar Maq

My understanding on the rumormill is that a planned sequel will focus entirely on Marv rather than have a fragmented story like this first movie had.

In that case they will have to write new stories..since basically Sin city are based of the comics and there are one more comic about Marv that were not in this movie..I think they will rather use the 2 other with Dwight and Marv..now that's 3 stories..just as the first one..

Well...

To be fair, while its not the best comic book movie out there, the one that is closest to the actual storyline is Daredevil. What is shows is almost verbatim Frank Miller.

Spiderman 1 & 2 come a close 2nd there. You can tell the person reading this is a big fan of the first 100 issues of The Amazing Spider-man from the 1960s. Right down to some shots in the movies actually being covers from the comic books themselves.

The current Batman Begins movie is 1970s Batman all the way, a ton of stuff for more nostalgic Batman fans like myself who just instantly know the history and background of all the characters. You can tell the people who did this movie are fans of that era of Batman (pre-Dark Knight btw).

The other 4 Batman movies aren't bad, but have little semblance to anything in the comics, other than perhaps the character names, and the bat-gadgets themselves.

X-Men is what it is. Not a ton of characterization because there's too many characters, but the action and sfx are good. And the stories, while not 100% accurate are probably 60% accurate which is enough for fans of the Byrne/Claremont era (which is where a lot of the story come from).

Hulk. I like this movie. It wasn't great. It had little semblance to the Hulk we know. But there were aspects of it that felt right, I mean lets face it the Hulk and Bruce Banner have never been deep or intricate characters. The characters that surround them have always been far more interesting. I would have preferred Absorbing Man not be munged into his father, but hey that stuff happens in movies.

But in my own opinion, while its not even remotely the most comic book accurate movie, that the original Superman movie with Christopher Reeves is still to date probably the best comic book adapted movie ever. Mostly because of its truly epic nature.

However that's not my favorite Superman of all time. That spot goes clearly to the animated version that they use currently in Justice League Unlimited. They've done an awesome job with they mythos that is Superman in every part of every series that they've used the character in: StAS, BB, JL, JLU, etc. (and I can get away with mentioning this here since they've made some 1.5 hour TV movies with Justice League and Supes/Bats).

True to the comic

I don't think that you can judge comic book based movies based on how
comic-book-ish they are. It all has to come down to how true they are
to the comic they are based off of.

Let's look at what are arguably the best comic adaptations out there:
In no particular order.

Batman (the original)
Batman Begins
Spiderman 1 & 2
X-men 2
Sin City

They all faithfully represent the media they were based off of.
Batman movies should be dark, brooding, and violent.
Spiderman should be serious and dangerous, with some relief from that for a coming-of-age story to exist.
X-Men should have a lot of personal drama, but when shit blows up, everyone gets in on the action.
Sin City needed to be brutal, dark, violent as hell, and offensive to most people's sensibilities.

A movie, such as The Hulk, lost sight of what it should be, and it ended up sucking.

I saw it too

I thought it was a great movie too simply based off its innovative style, so the actors and plot threads sends it over the top Eye.

However, I must disagree Frosty about best comic adaption. Im too big a Batman comic fan to abandon support for the Dark Knight Eye.

My understanding on the rumormill is that a planned sequel will focus entirely on Marv rather than have a fragmented story like this first movie had.

I saw this movie opening

I saw this movie opening night, and I am glad that I did. It really was spectacular. Reading your post about it wings makes me realize I made a mistake when I said that Batman Begins is the best comic book movie of all time. Sin City really is the best, Batman is the best Superhero movie. Off hand I don't remember anything wrong with Sin City, it was just great from beginning to end.
