Man, this is just sad news for me. I REALLY liked this series and everyone I have ever talked to that has read it has liked it, but I guess you have to drop a title if you want to bring back some other comic like say, Adam Strange, one of the most boring characters I can ever imagine.

Already on the She-Hulk bandwagon!
I really like that book, although I'm sorry to see the original artist is gone already. His artwork really added to the humor in the book and his facial expressions were priceless.
The new guy is a CrossGen refugee who worked on DC's Green Lantern before that! I like his artwork, but it feels a little too traditional for She-Hulk!
Oh well! I'll probably stick with it either way!

Didn't Read The Early Issues
I didn't start with this series until issue #12, so I can't comment on the early issues. But I am glad to hear that I have spiked at least one person's interest in picking up the title.
Now, if only we could get Tech back to the states so she would be able to pick up those She Hulk issues we talked about!!

Stopped reading it...
Unfortunately, HERO never really grabbed me in the early issues, so I dropped it! Your review, though, gives me incentive to grab the trades sometime soon!

Hero.....spoilers within
I can't find the original discussion we had on the forums here, so maybe this is something else that got lost in the last crash, anyways let me gush.
This is an updated version of the DC comic "Dial H for Hero". For those who don't know the concept it goes like this:
"Kid finds a strange device that is circular and contains four buttons on it (H, E, R, & O) when he presses the buttons and spells out the word HERO, he becomes a new superhero each time."
That's pretty much it. Through the years, DC has ressurected it like many other comics, and through those years there were two major characters who held the device. The current series focuses more on the device as the central character and the people that are affected by it.
I have read two story arcs in this series and each one has been outstanding. They are hands down some of the best stories I have read in a comic in years.
The first arc which I believe are issues #12-14 concern a chauvanistic construction worker who gets the device and after spending a day oggling women, gets transformed into a female hero, complete with super powers and ridiculous anatomy.
The great thing about the arc is that the guy immediately loses the device and any chance of changing back, so he has to adjust to life as a female. The thing about this story is that it could have easily caved into silly gags and obvious jokes as entirety, but the writer doesn't let it.
At it's core the guy learns more respect, gets a good look at the way his life and personality really are, and even begins to repair his broken marriage as a result. It's a simple story of seeing life from the other side and realizing that the other side has it tough too. But the story really excels at the characterization and the interplay of the main character and the people in his life while he tries to come to terms with this incredible change. Even though in the end he finds the device and returns to normal, he is changed for ever.
It's really a great story all around with good amounts of comedy, drama, and action!
Now this second story arc, which encompasses issues #15-18 is just great. Here is what it does:
It plays on the premiss is that the device is supernatural and eventually as it wanders from person to person it will fall into the hands of someone who is evil. What happens then?
Well, this story has its roots in the far past with a grown version of it's original owner. We find that he is now a criminal and he escapes from jail. After he gets away, we see that he has been keeping track of the appearances of the device throughout the nation via newspaper clippings that he has pinned all over his walls along with a map tracking its movements.
The guy then tracks down the second owner of the device and reveals what his intentions are. He explains his theory about the device falling into evil hands. He then tells the kid that the power that comes from the device actually stays with you and that you can access it with practice and shows the kid the truth of that in a controversial way.
He then tells the second guy that the last time he used the device himself he went into the future and discovered that someone evil does get the device and that his ex-wife is one of many who dies as a result of the device failing into the hands of evil.
So basically, they both go on a crusade to find and stop this guy using newspaper clippings from the future. The problems grow as somehow time was previously affected and things are happening faster than they should have.
I won't give away the neding, but needless to say their are deaths that are significant and actions that follow suit.
I don't want to get into a repetitive praising paragraph, but this is now my favorite series going, bar none. I seriously recommend it to everyone I can and I really encourage you to pick it up and enjoy it yourselves.

How I did it.
Thank you. =) If you're familar with Photoshop terminology here's how I did it.

Duplicate the layer with me, apply a hue/saturation later to the second copy so I get a nice green effect, apply a layer mask so I can erase the non applicaple gree areas. eg. The background. Open up Imageready and create 5 frames. Tell Imageready to 'tween' so the effect becomes gradual over 5 frames. Select time for each frame and export.

If you don't know Photoshop I can explain in more detail later.

Ultimates
I just had a chance to read Ultimates 13 which finished the first volume series. And I must say that was the best comic reading I have had in a long time.

She-Hulk
Not sure why, but I have always had a thing for 7ft tall muscular green women. Needless to say, She-Hulk has been a favorite title of mine ever since John Byrne started a great run in the early 90's. For lucky fans like myself, Marvel has started a new series with our favorite emerald crime fighter.
The current series is written by Dan Slott. I think the theme of this series is one of growth and maturity for She-Hulk. The series opens with her really out of control. She's partying all the time and throwing big bashes at Avenger's Mansion and dating an underware model.
Things quickly get out of hand, and despite many warnings, Jen Walters (She-Hulks alter ego) gets kicked out of the Avengers by Captain America and thrown out of the mansion. To make matters worse, he model boyfriend dumps her because she lacks depth! As she is absorbing all of this and wondering what she is going to do next, she get's a great, but unusual offer that she has to accept due to her current employment status.
The biggest law firm on the East Coast wants She-Hulk to join their team but they aren't interested in her super powered persona; they want the legal mind of her civilian identity Jennifer Walters!
One of the great points of the She-Hulk character is her embracing of her super abilities and how she sees herself as a complete upgrade to her previous life as Jen Walters. In fact, she really resents her weaker and vulnerable alter-ego to the point that she hardly ever leaves her She-Hulk form. She has even gone public with her real identity.
She joins the law firm and finds out that she won't be doing regular law work, she will be working in a branch that represents the supernatural, superheroes, and cosmic entities. In fact, on her first visit she sees lawyers speaking with a bunch of extra-terrestrials, a citizen of atlantis waiting in the lobby, and Dr. Strange who has come to seek persecution of an individual charged with the theft of one of his magical artifacts.
Shortly afterwards, she is introduced to her first case. A new hero named Dangerman wants to sue the company that he used to work for. The caveat is that Dangerman wants to sue them for negligence for the accident that transformed him from an average guy into the powerful hero Dangerman.
Now, I don't want to give everything away, but She-Hulk comes into conflict with Dangerman because she can't understand why someone would be upset with gaining superpowers and no longer being a weak and average person. By the end of the issue, you can see some growth in her character as she comes to understand where dangerman is coming from.
I have read the first 4-5 issues and I have found the story and writting to be great! Maybe even above average for today's comics. I think they are doing a great job of character exploration and spinning it in a new light that gives an established character new breath and excitement.
The dialogue in the book is top notch in my opinion too. I won't give it away, but in the last issue I read, Jenn and her co-worker are representing Spiderman (Movie tie-in, go figure) who has finally had enough of J. Jonah Jameson and has sued him for defamation of character, libel, and slander. The whole court process is fantastic as they argue over previous marvel court cases like Universe v. Thanos (as a result of his actions in The Infinity Gauntlet) and call witnesses to the stand.
When they get Spiderman to testify, it is pure comedy genius. This is some of the best Spiderman dialogue I have seen in probably over 20 years. His reply as to why he believes JJJ hates him is classic and had me howling for almost five minutes! It's been too long since I had a comic do that for me. If you miss the great smart-ass Spidey comments of the early years, this is an issue to get (She-Hulk #4).
Well, I hope that is enough to entice everyone to give this book a chance. I give it my Frosty seal and recommend it to everyone!
