Just because it's funny to read about SOE's failures
I found this post on a SWG thread on the CoH boards. It came up because people were going and trying the 14 day trial and coming back much more appreciative of what they had in CoH.
"I was involved in SWG throughout beta, and did time last year as the Bounty Hunter correspondent, and my only suggestion is this:
Never...NEVER....get involved with SOE. Their developers are always uncontrollably going in different directions, their management is totally incompetent, and let's face it...
Koster/Vogel?
It was horrible trying to talk to them. For example, during my time in correspondent prison, they decided in September of last year to implement incredible defensive bonuses for all combat professions (except Bounty Hunter of course). With a little testing, I realized that the numbers they intended to implement for these professions would create certain templates which would be invulnerable to attack, while others were still significantly gimped. It was a major imbalance they were creating.
When I reported my findings to the developers, I was told by Thunderheart that I should "stop spreading misinformation". No kidding, his words lol.
They implemented it anyway. The result was a Rifleman/Fencer combo that could not be hit. For SIX WEEKS after that implementation I begged them to tone it down or remove it, and was completely ignored. They simply would not respond.
In mid-December, a CSR was walking invisible, and came upon one of these templates in combat with 3 nasty critters that should have been annihilating him. Instead, the CSR starts counting and realized that this player had been missed 109 times in a row! The CSR banned the player for 'hacking', and all hell broke loose. It took all day to try to get the CSR to even LISTEN to me, and a few others, who were trying to explain that it was a development failure in the numbers.
They never fixed it in the next 6 months, but they did unstack the active defenses by Christmas which helped the situation a little.
All they had to do was run their own numbers based upon my feedback, but they are arrogant, egocentric and incompetent developers at all levels. I gave the game another 6 months after that, but I had cancelled my account in January, it was just running out. The last month I didn't even play it anymore (I was here lol).
Never...NEVER play, or get involved in an SOE product. The development teams there are too large, unmanagable, and even if they were managable they are run by some of the most dimwitted management I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.
SWG is a total failure. "
