D & D Online

Here we go. The Grand-daddy of pen paper games is finally getting into the online market. Sounds like CoH is already having a big influence on the this game as player oriented instanced missions will be a big part of this game.

Well first off Turbine Nation

Well first off Turbine Nation is an annual event that has been going on for over 4 years now. It is open to the public, but does carry an admission charge, and occurs in the NE.

I am friends with a few people at Turbine, so as for meet and greets, I can handle introductions Smiling

So next year

When Turbine has another event like this, whose arm do we have to twist Evil,,.. ummm uh, I mean, who do we have to kiss up to to get to be in on this meet and greet Eye

I like the Temple of Elemental Evil game that came out last year. It was so open ended that the game has at least six different opening cinematic sequences with several different outcomes.

Im the success of ToEE bodes well for the success and implementation of D & D online.

Well after sitting through a DDO panel today and seeing the first gameplay video to ever be seen outside of Turbine for DDO. I have to say this will be a game I am likely to try.

Its being written by people who not only love D&D but play with the 3.5 rules regularly to keep themselves familiarized with it constantly.

The graphics are cool. It has backstabbing (we saw this). You can shoot out lights. Avoid conflict and still achieve your goals.

There were other interesting things going on like being able to roll to the side to avoid things (like fireballs) etc.

It was mentioned that "reward" (I presume XP) will be more scenario based rather than per kill. I think they meant to say that achieveing your goal gets you XP ev en if you do it in a way that doesn't involve killing things.

They also mentioned low server populations. Compared to AC1 or AC2 that could mean 200. Compared to newer games that could mean 1000. But the idea was that servers should be close knit.

From what I read in that article, they do seem to be heading in the right direction. For one, it looks like soloing will be near non-existent. Couldn't agree with this more. As much as I love soloing, D&D is not the place for it. Seems they also have a decent enough mix of the classes and races.

Other than Baldur's Gate, the computer D&D games have been pretty lackluster. I've been playing it longer than many of you have been alive (when I started, in '77, the entirety of the rules fit in a roughly 40 page manual and that included monsters and loot!). Smiling

I'd hate to see this done wrong. I've not been overly impressed with Turbine's work to date, but I'm willing to give them a chance.

I hope for the sake of the D&D game that Turbine makes the ruleset transparent to the player. It would go a long way toward removing a lot of the issues they created in AC1.

MEO... I hear the game is suffering from repetitve-rewrite symptoms at this point, so I would hold out for it to be great. Its also supposed to have istancing though.

The whole 'instanced' thing has been going for a while now...

To my knowledge AO was the first game with them. It's one of those things that has thankfully caught on with these games. WoW has them too and FFXI has them in a limited fashion (only for big end of quest monsters). I think I heard that EQ has even added them in one of their expansions.
