More recommended comics

For those of you interested in good comics out there, here are a couple of my current favorites:

She-Hulk -- I know I've mentioned She-Hulk in Hero's thread, but it bears repeating since it's on the chopping block also due to low sales! It's a funny, original series that isn't completely slapstick, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. The writer does a great job mixing in obscure (and not-so-obscure) heroes and villains and makes great use of some of the absurdities of Marvel's history. I think issue #3 involved She-Hulk representing Spider-Man as he sued the Daily Bugle for slander. Great stuff!

Runaways -- Due to low sales, the first series will be ending next month, so there's not much point in trying to grab it now.... BUT, due to good sales in the manga-sized TPBs, it's going to be re-launching with a second series sometime early next year. I highly recommend that you grab Volume 1 of the Trade Paperback that's out now. Volume 2 should be out in the next month or two. Basically, the story is about 6 unrelated kids who find out that their parents are part of a super-villain organization that performs human sacrifices and are part of a dire plot to destory the world. The kids run away from home, only to discover some incredible things about themselves and their origins. Plus, there's a more intriguing sub-plot that indicates that one of the kids is a traitor and still loyal to his/her parents.

**Caution: Entering 'Mature' Comics Territory (Think an R-Rated movie... not XXX)**

Supreme Power -- A great remake by the guy who created the Babylon 5 TV series about a group of established Marvel characters who are basically a darker rip-off of the main DC heroes (Superman, Batman, etc.). This series takes a more real-world view of what these heroes would be like. Hyperion (Superman) is raised by the government, Doctor Spectrum (Green Lantern) is recruited by the government, Nighthawk (Batman) cares less about rehabilitating crooks than making sure they don't act up again, etc. It's a slow-moving series, and they're just now getting to the point where the "heroes" will meet up. It might be better in TPB form for you, but I like picking it up monthly!

Fables -- I can't say enough good things about this book! Long story short, it's the story of every fable character that you ever knew (and a lot you probably never heard of) and their life here in our world, also know as the "Mundy" (Mundane) world. The human fables (or those who can maintain human form) live in the city, and the non-human/animal fables live in the country on a farm. They're here in our world because they were run out of their realm by an unknown fable called The Adversary. They recently survived an assault by The Adversary's minions (thousands of Matrix agent-ish wooden puppets carved by Gepetto) and are picking up the pieces from that. Oh, and just to make the whole thing weird (or weirder), Snow White is pregnant with the Big Bad Wolf's baby! Eye

Y The Last Man -- Story of a world where an undetermined catastrophe occurred and instantly killed every single male mammal on earth (animals included).... except one (and his male monkey). The story revolves around Yorick and his journey with a government agent and a genetic scientist as they make their way to California to study why Yorick & Ampersand (the monkey) survived. A very dark take on a world where women are the only survivors!

With the exception of She-Hulk, all of these comics have at least one trade paperback on the market! If they sound intriguing, give them a shot! I don't think you'll be disappointed...

Nope.

Actually, I thought it was a brilliant the way the wrapped the story up. What they did is decide to expand the lawsuit and name Peter Parker as a conspirator along with JJJ and the Bugle! Once Peter was served with a summons, he met with his lawyer as Spidey and demanded a settlement! I won't tell you what the settlement was, but it was damn funny!!

Slander?!?

Please tell me they managed to work a tie-in ala JJ Jameson defining the difference between libel and slander. In Spidey 2 JJ almost stole the show again with that and similiar moments.

--Did someone say the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man is rampaging in Atlas Park? OMW and I'm bringing the Fire to toast 'im!

Supreme Power

Very good comic. =) I'm missing some issues. I picked up whatever was available at Fantastic Store.<hr>
