Origin

Starmaster was born Jason Daniels, son of billionaire industrialist Roger Daniels. Much of Jason’s childhood was spent in a mostly isolated state. He was privately tutored, had no friends outside of servants, and he hardly ever saw his parents, except during holidays and his Father’s parties.

Sometimes being born with a silver spoon in your mouth isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

So when Jason first found out he wasn’t exactly normal it was no great surprise that he hid it from his parents. It wasn’t terribly hard either, as they really didn’t care much about anything Jason did as long as he didn’t get into trouble. That and some day run the family business.

But Jason was focused and determined. The allure of using his abilities to help protect the innocent -- those who can’t protect themselves -- far outweighed his desire to become his father’s successor. In fact, he really didn’t think much of his father at all on a regular basis.

One of Jason’s first costumed exploits earned him the name Starmaster. The local reporter had referred to his powerful blasts as being “as bright as the light from a thousand stars� and had referred to him as having “mastered the stars themselves.�

Being a hero however involves more than just going out and fighting crime, it involves training – an area Jason felt he needed some direction. With that Jason packed his bags, moved out, and headed to the nearest Hero Corps training facility.

It wasn’t very surprising that his father disowned him shortly thereafter, and cut off his trust fund. Jason didn’t seem to mind.

Jason got his training. He learned how to hone his abilities and use them to unlock other abilities that he didn’t even realize he had. But at the same time Jason also noticed that there were other, more subtle lessons being taught. And there were times Jason had his doubts.

Slowly but surely Hero Corps began to leave a stale taste in his mouth. To him, the good will of the Corps only ran skin deep, and for him that was slowly becoming not enough.

Then the Rikti invaded. And Jason’s opinion of the Hero Corps took a turn for the worse. He watched a lot of people get sent to their deaths, and carried far too many bruised and battered bodies from the battlefields. It looked as though the Hero Corps cared more about its bottom line then about the people that worked for them.

This really irked Jason. And so one morning, after the war was over, and the Rikti were driven back, he packed his bags, and resigned from the Hero Corps. Things just weren’t working out for him there and he felt he needed to make his own way.

Not long after setting out on his own, Starmaster met Miss Dale, Kiki, Tech Know, and others and together they formed the core membership of the Avatars of Justice.

Findings Report for Project Menagerie

Subject: 100258 a.k.a. Starmaster a.k.a. Jason Daniels

Our DNA harvesting from Hero Corps recruits has uncovered an incredibly powerful genome. It classifies as a level 10 on the Mutagenic Scale, which we know flags it as a candidate for use in Project Revenant Hero.

Through observation, we have determined that the subject is capable of absorbing, retaining, and expelling vast quantities of solar radiation across the entire spectrum. In effect, the subject is a living solar radiation transceiver.

Testing has shown this DNA to be highly stable when put through Project Locke’s basic transcription process. And we believe the resulting messenger RNA will be highly compatible with the findings and procedures of that Project.

To be able to further observe the capabilities of this subject, we have had Hero Corps management place him an “advanced� training program designed to “help him hone and better control his abilities� and perhaps “unlock additional capabilities� of this genome.

During this training numerous brainwave and other synaptic patterns will be recorded. We understand this is necessary to take advantage of the late Dr. Friedken’s mind uploading research.

All research data gathered thus far and all future research from the “advanced� training will be forward to Dr. Summerfeld for use in Project Revenant Hero as per your directive on such matters.
