Christopher Reeve AKA Superman has died.
Christopher Reeve, the actor died on on Sunday at the age of 52. Christopher Reeve acted in the role of Superman in a series of movies from 1978 to 1987. He had a tragic horse riding accident 9 years ago that left him paralyzed from the neck down. He overcome that obstacle to return to directing, writing and even acting.
<p>
Chris Reeve was Superman to me, and I think to a lot of my generation. Being such a big comic book fan, it was a big thrill so see Superman up on the big screen. He brought the comic book hero to life. His heroic comeback from his riding accident is a tribute to his character as a man.
<p>
We'll miss you Superman. Godspeed...
<p>
Christopher Reeves, 1952-2004.

Actually Maq, there is a really great 4 DVD set of the Superman movies. Contains as many of the scenes that were cut out originally and then aired on a special showing on WWOR in NY that became legendarily famous because people did not believe folks living in the NE when they told them about stuff like the trial by ice, fire, and weaponry. Or the lion pit. etc.
It also includes the original readings for the parts by various actors including Reeves and Kidder. And directory commentary. Etc.
Its an awesome DVD boxed set.

Definitely gonna miss him.
Didnt have Superman on DVD. Was hoping they would come out with a more elaborate version. But on the day his death was announced, I bought a copy (I also want to get a copy of Somewhere in Time too).
When I popped it into the DVD player, I really didnt expected to react the way I did, but my sorrow seemed to grow. Especially when Pa Kent died and John Williams music played. To me, the music wasnt for Pa Kent, but for Christopher Reeve. I shall truly miss the actor that breathed life into an iconic character.

like him..."<p>

Awwww =(
<p>
I remember running around with a towel around my neck and a Superman Underroos T-Shirt. (They didn't make any Supergirl Underroos... only Wonder Woman and someone else for girls). I just found out they did but I never saw them.
<p>
When I say Christopher Reeve play Superman I thought he was just perfect for the role.
<p>
The man was more amazing than any character he played on screen or stage. I don't think I could handle being in his condition.

I would support this, too...
It was such a shock nearly 10 years ago when he had his accident. I couldn't believe that the Superman I grew up with would never fly again. Christopher Reeve's perseverence and will to live, though, made him a bigger hero off screen than he could ever have been onscreen.
I'm not a big fan of Smallville, but I watched it when Reeve showed up for a guest appearance. It was a nice way to pass the torch.
Here's hoping the COH devs create some sort of memorial to Reeve. I think, in this case, we can bend the "No real life" rule a bit...

I've never been a huge fan of 'real life' in MMO's, but this is something I would be 100% in favor of.

Y'know I saw the very first Superman movie in the old Paramount movie theater in NYC right before it close. It was at the time the biggest indoor movie screen in the country and no screen has been bigger since.
The screen could barely contain him.

I will always think of Christ
I will always think of Christopher Reeve as Superman.
<p>Unfortunately the thought of Superman dying is a hard one to deal with. For me anyway. As I get older it becomes harder and harder to watch my childhood heroes pass away. John Candy, Douglas Adams, Bob Hope, Dudley Moore, Chuck Jones, Charles Schultz, Joe Di Maggio, George Burns, Frank Sinatra, Phil Hartman and now Superman. I'm sure I've missed a few.
<p>Captain Tranchemontagne, the Captain of my company died a few weeks after we came home from Iraq. He had come down with lymphatic cancer while were deployed. He was a great guy, a math teacher, wrestling coach, my Captain. I didnt go the funeral bacause I was afraid I would ball my eyes out. Kind of like now.
<p>I hate it when heroes die.
