Troy

Picked up Troy yesterday. Best Buy offered a good deal on two DVDs if they were bought in conjuction with Troy. I also got Lawrence of Arabia and Last of the Mohicans.
One aspect of Troy that I enjoyed most was the portrayal of Achilles by Brad Pitt and Hector by Eric Bana. They portrayed characters that opposite sides of the same coin: warrior. Hector was the warrior who fought for Family and Country, and Achilles was the warrior who fought for Honor and Glory.
Another aspect was the lack of mythic interaction of the Greek gods. It allows, from a certain perspective, for a more historical portrayal.

Speaking of...
Dances with Wolves, the expanded version was on A&E yesterday. A vast difference then the theatrical release. After seeing many of the expanded scenes, which also expands the screen time of the Lakota tribe Dunbar encounters, I think Im going to have to get the expanded version and dump the hteatrical version I have.

I'm a huge fan of epic type stories in general. I also really enjoyed Dances with Wolves because it was that same epic type movie. I'm not saying I'd sit through them every day, but I do enjoy them.
Now Lawrence of Arabia is just an amazing story about an amazing person. The scenes in it are fascinating and truly fantastic to watch. It deserves every accolade it ever got.

Shakespeare's Troyus and Cres
Shakespeare's Troyus and Cresida is still a far better retelling of the battle of Troy. And his portrayal of Achillies is keener.
But you'd probably expect that.
BTW Lawrence of Arabia and Last of the Mohicans are two of my all time favorite movies. Then again I enjoy Gone With the Wind also. Go figure.
